The Car Sharing Model: A Proud Heritage

"Our organisation was founded on a spirit of collaboration, by and for the collective - and in many ways this is the reason for our success. Our partnerships both internally and externally are the lifeline to our continued way forward, and the key to continuing to provide the quality of product and service which are unparalleled in the industry."

Viviana Buchmann, CEO of Mobility Genossenschaft Switzerland

More than 20 Years of History: Then & Now

As an innovator and early adapter of the “car sharing” model, Mobility International’s parent company, Mobility Genossenschaft Switzerland is now the world’s second largest car sharing company, and the number one in viability and profitability.

For Mobility car sharing Switzerland, its more than 20 years of a successful experiment in car sharing is firmly grounded in the original vision its founders had in mind: set up a community-based cooperative which, was established to serve the mobility interests of the individuals in Swiss cities while caring for and preserving the environment of the collective. As a “Cooperative”, Mobility is an organisation owned and supervised by its 40,000 owner-members. This formula has resulted in a product and service in car sharing for Mobility car sharing Switzerland’s customers that has come to mean: efficiency, reliability, trust-worthiness; and above-all-else a sustainable solution for the saving of CO2 emissions (290kg per customer per year in 2009) while fulfilling the individual transportation needs for Mobility customers.

Growth of Mobility Genossenschaft Switzerland for the Past 20 Years

Mobility had a total of 96'800 customers and 2'500 cars in December 2010, and this figure had grown to 100’000 and 2’600 cars by mid 2011.
